Ukraine attacked overnight: Armed Forces destroyed almost all Russian drones

Russian invaders launched over two dozen Shahed kamikaze drones for another air attack on Ukraine on the night of May 5. Sky defenders destroyed almost all enemy drones, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the military command, it was revealed that overall, the occupiers used 24 combat drones during this attack.

“At night, Russian occupiers once again attacked Ukraine, employing 24 UAVs of the Shahed type. With the efforts and means of Ukraine’s air defense, 23 of these combat UAVs were destroyed,” – reported the General Staff.

Details of air defense operations

In the Air Force, it was specified that enemy drones were shot down in three regions during this night, specifically in the:


・Kherson, and

・Dnipropetrovsk regions.

According to Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Air Force, the enemy attacked from the north and south directions with 24 combat UAVs of the Shahed-131/136 type, and the launch areas were Kursk Oblast (Russia) and Cape Chauda (occupied Crimea).

“The enemy’s aerial assault was repelled by the air defense missile units of the Air Force and mobile fire groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the general’s statement reads.

Night Shaheds assault

Earlier reports indicated that on Saturday evening, May 4, air raid sirens were sounded in several regions of Ukraine. The command of the Air Force reported the detection of combat drones of the Shahed type in a number of regions.

Around half past midnight on Sunday, May 5, explosions rocked Kharkiv due to a barrage of attacks. A Shahed drone was reported to have struck the residential sector of the Osnovianskyi district of the city. As a result of the impact, three private houses caught fire. According to media reports, one man was injured.

Additionally, explosions were also reported in Dnipro. Air defense operations, particularly in the suburbs, were mentioned.

Furthermore, later in the night, Kharkiv witnessed another series of explosions.
