Next week, the European Union will allocate 137 billion euros to Poland. The European Union will decide on the allocation of “frozen” funds to Poland by March 3, says the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen at the briefing.
“Next week, two decisions are expected regarding European funds, which are currently blocked for Poland. They will release up to 137 billion euros for the country. These are funds from cohesion funds and funds under the EU’s Next Generation plan,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
She also noted that about 1.2 billion will be given to farmers who are currently blocking the Ukrainian-Polish border.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the funds will go to support agricultural producers, and he called this day important, because from the first days of his tenure as prime minister, his goal was, in particular, to “restore the rule of law and democratic standards.”
The European Union suspended the allocation of these funds to Poland due to concerns about reforms of the country’s Supreme and Constitutional Courts under the country’s previous government.
In the parliamentary elections in Poland in October 2023, the then-ruling party Law and Justice took first place. But as a result, the opposition led by Tusk gained power.
