The body of a missing teenaged girl has been found in a home on Tsawwassen First Nations lands.

Maaike Blom was found in a home this morning and an adult male has been arrested but Delta Police, “wish to stress the investigation is still in the early stages,” said a press release.

“Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death,” says Delta Police’s Cris Leykauf. “We’d like to offer our sincere condolences to her family, friends and loved ones on their loss.”

Maaike was reported missing Dec. 5 but was last seen by her family on Dec. 3.

Police said her disappearance was out of character, and the case was considered high risk.

“Her death, while considered suspicious, is believed to be an isolated occurrence,” said Leykauf.

“We recognize that the public may have many questions, but we ask that investigators be given the opportunity to proceed with their work. The public is not believed to be at risk regarding the circumstances of her death.”
