EDMONTON — Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating the fatal shooting of a crime suspect by Edmonton Police Service officers.

Edmonton police say in a release Friday that officers pursued a stolen vehicle in the city around noon.

Police say during the chase the vehicle collided with an unoccupied vehicle before veering into a snowbank.

When the suspect fled on foot, police say he produced a firearm and officers opened fire on him.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says it is investigating but has not released any details.
