A suspect is in custody in Vanderhoof just over an hour after police said there was an active shooter in the small northern community.
A man with a long gun began targeting the RCMP detachment in the 100-block of Columbia Street shortly after noon, B.C. RCMP said Thursday.
The man then continued to drive around the downtown in a pick-up truck, added Cpl. Madonna Saunderson in a news release.
“Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to anyone during this event.”
A man had been taken into custody without incident by 1:15 p.m.
Residents who were asked to shelter in place, lock their doors and not leave their home or business until the emergency police alert was rescinded.
